Behind each door is a selection of milk chocolate bonbons with caramel and sea salt alongside a sweet festive story to read in the build-up to the big day. Of all the chocolates we tasted (and trust us, there were a lot), the sea salt bonbons inside this calendar were our absolute favourite. Best for: Italian food lovers

Calling all serious foodies, this calendar is bursting at the seams with delicious Italian delicacies. Restaurant and café chain Carluccio's is well-known for delicious award-winning products of which some are presented behind each door of this colourful calendar. Treats range from truffle butter to delicious panettone – a true Italian feast. However, it is expensive, so perhaps suited to those who are really dedicated to cooking with fine ingredients. A little on the pricey side but appropriately indulgent for Christmas, we reckon this would go down well at the office to share with other tea drinkers. Best for: Good quality children's chocolate

If you're tired of giving your kids the average sugary chocolate of most Advent calendars, you should opt for one of Montezuma's wild and wonderful creations. We liked this one, particularly aimed at kids because as well as containing high quality white and milk chocolate, it also comes in an easy-to-open box – and they can colour in each door as they go!
